I grew up in a Black neighborhood, so 99% of my friends are Black. People on FB always piss me off with the comment~ wow you have a lot of Black friends. WTF! Honestly, I kinda got how she felt at first; I feel like I’m intruding when I go somewhere that has mostly Halloween skull forget candy just give me wine shirt. But the Nigerian comment put an end to that. For a moment I thought that there could be some redemption when she said she doesn’t like to go into black people’s spaces alone if she had said she doesn’t want to intrude or she wanted to allow them to dictate who enters their space.

Someday, probably not in the USA, people won’t define their differences by race, but by familiarity and if they are willing to personally expose themselves to what is unfamiliar them. I don’t think that was racist. Maybe she just felt out of place. My dude is white and I have gone out with his whole family and I am the only Latina. So I felt weird and out of place. That doesn’t make me racist. I just find it out of my comfort zone because I have always been around a very diverse group of people.
